Vivaldi broadbandfeed 23-3cm

After I described in 1984 before a Vivaldi broadband horn in DUBUS I would like to again present some considerations about it today. The optimum broadband feed does not exist for 3 reasons:

1.) The focal point for optimum illumination of a dish moves in the spotlight, depending on frequency; the focal point adjustment is a compromise in any case.

2.) The return loss value also forms a compromise for optimum adaptation to one frequency.

3.) The optimum illumination of a parabolic dish changes over frequency due to the radiation angle is a compromise.

Advantages: Simple structure, low cost, and only 1 parabolic dish required for several  micrommWave bands. A return loss value of 10 dB has an attenuation of 0.1 dB is obtained - acceptable.

Construction: The radiator is made from 0.1mm self-adhesive copper foil. The support material is FOREX 3mm on which the film is eye glued on. The housing consists of trade-commercial Runoff PVC pipe D = 125mm "RED" for outdoor applications "gray" for indoor applications and 2 end caps, which are in, glued from FOREX for guiding each 4 pads. Some SemiRigdit cm RG141 cable and N (or SMA) flange female. The copper surface with the solder joints for feeding should be sprayed with "PLASTIC Spray" for Resistant to corrosion protection. Drill at the bottom of the tube a 3mm hole for condens moisture leakage occurs. As a holder of the parabolic dish can rfhamdesign CLX-1 can be used with D = 125mm. The performance was tested with 50W rf.

I myself have the spotlight described above in a 1m dish to 23, 13, 9 and 6 cm for years in operation and will replace it this spring and give difference measure and the result known here.

Ergebnis: Keine signifikanen Unterschiede feststellbar.14/04/2015: Today I changed and measured the feed in the parabolic dish. The measurement distance was 30 meters. Result: No significant differences were observed.
